Mr. Nobody

2:51:00 PM

In Belgrade, Serbia

He is called Mister Nobody and he’s known for being not special at all and doing nothing unusual. Every day he wakes up, drinks his coffee, doesn’t have time to have breakfast, catches his bus, goes to work, has small talk with his colleagues, works, goes back home, eats in front of the TV and goes to sleep. He looks like everyone else. He talks like everyone else. He wears old but elegant black coat and his eyes are kinda empty. His ringtone is the basic one that was already in his phone. His neighbors think that he is strange but nice. He always stops to pet a dog. Every 2 months he goes to the same hairdresser down the street and he always wants the same haircut. He doesn’t have favorite color or animal or day in the week or dinosaur. When he was a kid he used to have dinosaur slippers, though. He doesn’t like his job but he doesn’t want to change it. He wants to visit Greece, but he’ll probably never go there.
When he was younger, he had a lot of wishes and ambitions, but he thought that it was too inconvenient to change the things he’s already used to. What happened? Nothing at all. Now he has none.
You’ve already seen him. Maybe on the street or in the bus, but you didn’t pay attention, and maybe in the mirror.

  7. how come I can see myself from this Mr Nobody ... You know what I am actually a loner type of guy and I used to isolate myself from people for no particular reason.. so at somepoint I can consider myself a Mr Nobody because of my lack of social interactions and nobody seems to care about my existence (other than my family and close friends of course haha)

    1. Family amd close friends are the only ones that matter, no worries :) The main problem of Mr. Nobody is lack of ambition and monotony

  9. It is truth that routines can become places people get stuck. It is a great reminder to get out there and try something new or out of your own norm!

  10. Unfortunately there are a lot of people like Mr Nobody, that have lost all their hope and dreams and just live to die. Maybe it's the system that screw them up, maybe it's themselves, maybe there's his parents that screw him up. Or maybe it's just life, taking no risks means safe and security, and who would want to lose that, especially if you're middle aged, with an average income that covers your mortgage and food and that's about it? It's sad, I saw this many times in my country, with the people that were young 20 years ago, that don't know otherwise because that's how the life was back then, in communism.

    1. I think it's a mixture of everything you mentioned, it's not just one side's fault. It's sad really, specially because there are more and more young people who are becoming Mr. Nobody.

  12. Mr. Nobody.. sadly there are so many mister/miss nobodies. Living their lives just as you described. I would fall into that pool of people but if working on being miss somebody - for myself.

P.S. I like short posts. They have to still have meaning to it though.

  13. I agree with Joanna. There are many people like Mr. Nobody. Stuck with life and routine. It is the sad reality of life.

From the outside looking in, that is how we see Mr. Nobody. But I suspect, there are those who chose to be Mr. Nobody.

  15. Aren't we all anonymous? And, yes, we revel in our anonymity.Take birth, go to school, go to college, get a job, have kids, retire and die...isn't this cycle exhilarating?

  18. Well, this just brought me to tears. Mr Nobody sounds like he just hasn't lived his life. I am fearful of becoming a Ms Nobody myself. While I don't need to see the world, I wouldn't mind some light traveling myself. I recently lost a cousin, last summer in August. She was the second oldest out of 8 of us. She traveled the world and lived life completely to the fullest. She lived with no fear. At 43 years old, her death put my world into perspective. She was only 36. She was so young. Her death was a painful reminder that we are not invincible to death. So it is my desire to somehow try and do some living like she did. I hope I can. Sorry for such a long comment, but your story really struck a chord with me. Great writing :)

    1. I'm so sorry for your cousin, that's really sad. I truly admire the way she lived, as you said, fearlessly and unapologetically.
I believe in you! You can make your life whatever you want to!
And thank you so much, it really means a lot to me.
      Have a great day x

  22. This is very deep. Thank you for writing this. I think we are all Mr. Nobody's at some point in our life but we have to work on changing that. Some people succeed and some doesn't which is sad.

    1. Thank you :) Some people may not have the capacity to become Mr. Somebody, and some just let it happen.. i agree that we all have that point in our life. I did and now i can look back at that point and tell myself "I made it!"

  23. This is really interesting to think that you could be the Mr. Nobody. Some days I want to be that person that no one really pays attention to and some days I want someone to care. Thanks for the food for thought.
